Degenerate Zoo - Jef Andrea

In Degenerate Zoo, maligned animals are shown in a positive light.
The Vandalistic Seagull, the exotic crayfish, louse, street rat, and so on, are all given their own cubicle in which their positive characteristics are highlighted. This is done through film, diorama, and a real aquarium. An informative sign next to each metroscope provides visitors with an explanation of why these animals are of undeniable importance in our society.

About the artist
Jef studied at the School of Agriculture and Horticulture and at the Graphic Lyceum. He finds his inspiration mostly in the animal kingdom, making sculptures from old fur coats, garbage and polyurethane foam. These have been exhibited at the Arti, De Vlieg (Haarlem) and at the Pulchri in The Hague. He also exhibited with fished up bicycle wrecks (Vietsen) which he provided with names such as: Gazzalem, Batavis, Mountain perch etc.
Jef did an internship at The Eddie the Eagle museum where he developed himself as a stunt/theater performer, until today he performs under the name Stuntman Uncle Jefferson at festivals like Lowlands, Mysteryland,Wasteland and Kamping Kitsch. At a completely different internship, namely Beast in Mechelen, he learned the intricacies of the stop-motion trade and made some stop-motion animations himself. At film festival Pluk de Nacht he made “the Seagull Rock,” a mountain resurrected from garbage bags equipped with stuffed seagulls, this was also a pulpit of the artist in which seagull quizzes and ornithological lectures were organized.
