Moving Love is about love in motion. About the journey you take to stay true to who you are and who you love. For queer people, the point of departure, the journey, and even the destination are rarely safe. And yet, the need to love is greater than the fear of the consequences. Standing still is not an option. That is the essence of Moving Love- because everyone has the right to a life of dignity.
For Moving Love fifteen queer refugees were selected from around the world to participate in this filmproject. After a series of workshops in which they learned every part of filmmaking, ten of them created a short cinematic two-piece.
It was important that they had full control over their own story. Precisely because that control has so often been taken away from them, to the point where there were no longer the right words to tell that story. Film offers a solution here: a way to convey dozens of things in a single image. This resulted in ten unique, authentic works that range from powerful political statements to intimate love letters: to themselves or to those they hold dear, each exploring identity and the strength to keep going.
The next step is moving into the open with their story, an act that is both liberating and, for many queer refugees, deeply risky. Around the world, queer rights are increasingly under pressure amid the rise of fascism. In 61 countries, being gay is still criminalized, and in 7, it is punishable by death. In a climate shaped by fear and hostility, stories of hope, connection, and love are more essential than ever. That is what Moving Love stands for.
