Founded by TeZ in 2006, Optofonica has been an International endeavour to promote new forms of art that probe the intersections between Art, Science and Technology. Optofonica also became a transdisciplinary lab in Amsterdam in 2009, focused on production and dissemination of artworks that explore the relationships between modal phenomena (waves in the form of light, sound, mechanical vibration and chemical reactions) and the human sensorium.
At Optofonica Lab new strategies are conceived and promoted that interconnect different domains of knowledge and practices comprising ecology and anthropology among others. The synaesthetic and immersive qualities of installations, performances and public presentations created by Optofonica's pool of artists remain in the current scope of the Lab. TeZ is also active member of Hackteria International association of bio-artists and Optofonica is the Dutch node of this extended network of community makers and cultural hackers.
