Where do you belong when home and identity have never been simple questions?
Where Do You Belong? is a photo exhibition by photographer and filmmaker Jonnah Bron, featuring portraits of queer adoptees in places where they feel at home. Each participant chose a location that holds personal meaning: a place of comfort, memory, connection, or belonging. Seated within these landscapes, they take their place in front of the camera and share a personal reflection on the question: Where do you belong?
For some adoptees, questions around identity, origin and belonging emerge early in life. Growing up between origins, cultures, families or countries can create a lifelong search for where and with whom one feels at home. For queer adoptees, these questions can take on new dimensions as sexuality and gender identity become part of that journey. The exhibition offers a collection of personal perspectives on belonging in all its complexity.
On the opening night, queer adoptees featured in the exhibition come together for an intimate panel conversation inspired by the themes explored in the work. Together, they will reflect on belonging, identity, adoption, queerness, chosen family, and what it means to create a sense of home. How do others see us? How do we see ourselves? Who makes us feel at home? And where do we belong? The Chinese Empress
Following the conversation, visitors are invited to stay, connect and continue the conversation informally over drinks.
Where Do You Belong? is an invitation to reflect on the places, people and communities that make us feel seen, and on the many ways we create a sense of home for ourselves and each other.
