De Ontheemtuin is een rijdende educatieve vlindertuin. De oorsprong van de Ontheemtuin is de ontruiming van de vlindertuin op Buikslotermeerplein voor de komst van een gebouw. Nu is de tuin ontheemd en staat op wielen. Als een stuk boventallig natuur is het op drift door Amsterdam Noord, om allerlei plekken aan te doen waar natuur gedecimeerd wordt. Dit om duidelijk te maken dat Amsterdamse natuur ontheemd is. Om dit rijdende reservaat heen zullen we met een cultureel en natuurminnend programma, natuur weer in onze cultuur opnemen. Er is hoop! Het kunstwerk wordt enerzijds gevormd door de macro uitvergroting van grote stalen vlinders en anderzijds de natuur; Hiervoor heeft vlindertuin Mot in Mokum div habitats gecreëerd voor verschillende vlindersoorten. De Ontheemtuin is een wereld in balans: er is plek voor menselijke cultuur en natuur.

Over de kunstenaar
Nils van Went is gespecialiseerd in het ontwerpen en maken van kunstwerken en functionele objecten van oud metaal. ‘Ik geef gebruikt metaal een tweede leven als kachel, hekwerk, lamp, frame of wat dan ook,’ zegt Nils. ‘Wat ik maak is eigenlijk altijd kunstzinnig qua vormgeving, maar mijn objecten en installaties hebben meestal wel een praktische functie.’

Nicky Castricum is eigenaar van Vlindertuin Mot in Mokum en is initiatiefnemer van de Ontheemtuin, het educatieve en culturele programma. De beplanting van de Ontheemtuin is bijzonder: specifiek uitgekozen om verschillende vlindersoorten van waardplant, drachtplant of schuil- of overwinterplek te voorzien. Bovendien aangeplant in biotopen en geschikt om de extremen van een rijdende tuin te kunnen weerstaan. Veel plantsoorten zijn zeldzaam of staan op de rode lijst.

About the artist
Nils van Went specializes in designing and creating artwork and functional objects from scrap metal. 'I give used metal a second life as a stove, fence, lamp, frame or whatever,' says Nils. 'What I make is actually always artistic in design, but my objects and installations usually have a practical function.'

Nicky Castricum owns Vlindertuin Mot in Mokum and is the initiator of the Ontheemtuin, the educational and cultural program. The planting of the Ontheemtuin is special: specifically chosen to provide different butterfly species with host plants, gestation plants or hiding or overwintering places. Moreover, planted in biotopes and suitable to withstand the extremes of a traveling garden. Many plant species are rare or on the red list.
