Een special event rond het werk van de Iraanse dichter en filmmaker Forugh Farrokhzad (1935-1967).
De avond bestaat uit een theaterconcert uitgevoerd door performer Imra Dinçer en musici Dodó Kis, Michaela Riener, Nora Mulder en componist Huba de Graaff: And here I Am / a Lonely Woman (nog één keer te zien in Amsterdam) over rebellie, leven en dood. Daarna is de vertoning van de legendarische documentairefilm ’The House is Black’ van Farrokhzhad.
Host van de avond is dichteres Shira Wolfe, zij gaat in gesprek met de vertaalster van Farrokhzhad’s werk, de Amerikaans/Iraanse schrijfster Sholeh Wolpé.

Forugh Farrokhzad
…is in Iran één van de belangrijkste dichters van de 20e
eeuw. Met haar eerste gedicht ‘Sin’ uit 1958 over vrouwelijke
seksualiteit wordt ze zowel beroemd als verguisd. Nadat ze ook als
cineast internationale bekendheid verwerft, verongelukt ze op 32-jarige
leeftijd. In haar korte, vrijgevochten leven overschreed ze aan de
lopende band maatschappelijke normen. Postuum wordt ‘Let Us Believe in the Dawn of the Cold Season’ gepubliceerd – een
gedicht waarin schoonheid, kracht én rebellie van vrouwen van alle
generaties en culturele achtergronden als universeel gegeven
gepresenteerd wordt.
Forugh Farrokhzad is een heldin, en inspiratiebron voor vrouwen overal ter wereld.

The program consists of a performance by Imra Dinçer and musicians Dodó Kis, Michaela Riener, Nora Mulder and composer Huba de Graaff: And here I Am / a Lonely Woman. An all female rock performance based on poems by the Persian poet and filmmaker Forugh Farrokhzad. A theatrical concert about rebellion, life and death. Farrokzhad’s acclaimed documentary The House is Black will be showed afterwards.
Poet Shira Wolfe will be hosting this event, starting the night off with an interview with the American/Iranian Sholeh Wolpé, writer and translator of Farrokzhad’s work.

Forugh
Farrokhzad (1935 – 1967) is one of the most important poets of the 20th
century in Iran. With her first poem ‘Sin’ from 1958 about female
sexuality, she became both famous and reviled. After gaining
international fame as a filmmaker, she died at the age of 32. In her
short, free-spirited life, she continuously exceeded social norms.
Forugh Farrokhzad is a heroine and inspires women all over the world.
